FOCUS: Define and examine your challenge.
GOAL: Identify what you want to do - and why.
ACTION: Determine specifically what you need to do - and when.
RESULTS: Conquer the course and make your dreams come true.Champions
come to the playing field, the track, the gym, and the mountain to realize their dreams
and goals. Dreams start as ideas, and are later realized because the individual believed
that their dream could come true. After spending years of hard work, determination,
courage, and dedication (and with the help of others i.e. coaches, friends, parents,
family members etc.) the champion sharpens his or her focus, sets specific goals, defines
and develops a plan of action, and concentrates all of their energy to go as far as they
can - and then even further. This kind of commitment empowers the champion with the
strength to "go the distance" and achieve victory.
Using Champions For Life Mountain metaphor as a guide will help the individual, the
family, the school, and the corporation to :1) Solve problems; 2) Strengthen
relationships; and 3) Set and achieve goals together.
To get from the top to the bottom of the mountain safely and in control you have to
follow four steps: First: Focus on the issue the subject or the problem. Define and
examine the situation at hand. Is it a school subject? A social issue? A relationship
problem at home, school, or work? Identify each persons point of view and write it down.
Don't be judgmental. This is neutral territory where you examine what course you want to
take. Second: Set a specific Goal. Improved grades, clarified values, better
performance at work, detailed daily tasks and chores, etc. Third: Design a plan of
Action. This is the step where you identify the specific long and short term strategy
necessary to achieve your desired results. Put all of your attention and effort into it. Fourth:
Desired Results. Results are the evidence of how well you have incorporated steps one
through three. If you achieve what you were working for then celebrate the spirit of
"conquering the course" if not, take another run down Life Mountain. After
putting forth the effort, you deserve a Champion's reward. |
